Fear of God

Matt 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

I love that we are encouraged to fear God and that this is the beginning of wisdom (ps 1:7) but at the same time there is an encouragement concerning God's care for us and that we should not be afraid.

My version:  Fear God, this is smart.... but do not be afraid because He loves and cares for you more deeply then you could imagine.

I was listening to a speech on teaching by John Wooden and thought that this poem could also relate to discipleship, evangelism, parenting etc

Fear

If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, 
       O Lord, who could stand?

  But with you there is forgiveness; 
       therefore you are feared.

Psalm 130 v 3 and 4

I love this Scripture. It confirms the truth that the goodness of God leads us to repentance. God is feared because of His goodness.
